Sound Mixer

Sound Check

The single most important aspect of getting your sound right, both on stage and out front, is a thorough sound check. Among other processes, time is spent getting the input gain and gain staging correct right from the outset.

Big Speaker

Front of House

You're there to entertain the audience. So, of course, what they hear is paramount to your gig. It's important to get the correct positioning of the front-of-house speakers, a good overall EQ, "ringing out" to avoid unwanted feedback and so on.

On Stage

On-stage Sound

Secondary to the audience, but just as important, is how things sound on the stage to you, the band. Getting the correct mix for each band member in their monitor speaker or in-ear monitors. And, again, "ringing out" to pre-empt any feedback.

People Partying

Live Performance

Once you're set up, that's not the end of it. A good sound engineer will be actively keeping an ear on everything, accomodating different songs, accomodating different singers, catching any unexpected feedback, and turning effects on and off in between songs. It's about making you sound good while taking care of things so that you can concentrate on the song at hand and the important issue of entertaining your audience.
